Reuse of the Izegem Chapter Room

description

After the deconsecration of the Capuchin Fathers' Church in Izegem in 2014 and its eventual demolition in 2022, the chapter hall remains the last tangible reminder of the activities of the Capuchin Fathers. Woonzorgcentrum 't Pandje is transforming the space into a multipurpose room while respecting its historical past. For this project, the main contractor All-Bouw from Roeselare was appointed.

For the façade work, All-Bouw relied on Geert Viaene. The joints were carefully removed and repointed with NHL 3.5 natural hydraulic lime from Saint-Astier. Where necessary, damaged sections of the façade were rebuilt using the same lime.

Inside, the walls were treated with a salt-buffering plaster layer applied by the experts at Bart Verhaeghe from Torhout. RC Sanisel was applied both manually and using a worm pump. This was then finished with the RC Calcoliss 300 lime smoothing plaster.
